Fueled by mega-hits including "Hey Jealousy," "Found Out About You" and "Til I Hear It From You," Gin Blossoms completed the classic crossover from college-circuit heroes to multi-platinum album sellers. Sunday, April 17 continues the fun with the Red Bull 1976 Games Snowbladecross, free live music by Vices I Admire and a Guns N’ Roses tribute band, Appetite for Destruction, the 76 Games Old School Air, and then completing the free music lineup with your favorite 80s rock band, headliner Quiet Riot.
Make sure to stick around for the Peak Performances live show starting at 8 p.m. in the Bighorn Ballroom of the Copper Conference Center, with headliners MiMosa, as well as Frequent C and Archnemesis – show is $20 and tickets can be purchased at www.GigDigger.com or at the Copper Conference Center day-of the show.
The fun doesn’t stop with the music, the country’s best collegiate skiers and riders will be throwing down during the Alt Games College Championships Saturday, April 16, with a televised Slopestyle Skiing and Snowboarding competition, as well as a Rail Jam which will take place near Burning Stones Plaza. The Alt Games, going into its 6th consecutive year, is a one-of-a-kind event showcasing college action sports championships in sports like skiing, snowboarding, wakeboarding, flowboarding, kayaking, and beach volleyball. More than 500 competitors from 45 different colleges and universities nationwide are expected to compete in 2011. The Championship competitions will air on the CBS College Sports Network. www.thealtgames.com
In conjunction with Sunsation, teams of outrageous skiers channeling their inner 70s groove and retro ski skills will unite at Copper for the Red Bull 1976 Games on Sunday, April 17. So what inspired this wackiness? More than 30 years ago, Denver was awarded the 1976 Winter Olympics, but then a coalition of activists and politicians campaigned against it and the games instead got moved to Innsbruck, Austria. This event brings the games back to Colorado and finally "gives the year 1976 its day." Competitions include Snowblade Cross & Old School Air, plus an award for most outrageous costume and team mojo! So grow (or stick on) those mustaches, squeeze into your one-piece and get ready to party like its 1976. www.RedBullUSA.com/1976Games
