Copper’s Summer Events Calendar Offers Live Music, Cycling and Woodward at Copper


Copper Mountain, CO…June 25, 2009…This summer, Copper Mountain offers guests the freedom to define their own vacation experience with an array of events, including national music acts like America and Little Feat, an improved cycling line-up and the first ever Woodward at Copper summer camps, giving campers access to an on-snow terrain park. 


Guests can watch or participate with a diverse and jam-packed event calendar. Woodward at Copper is the first indoor/outdoor ski and snowboard camp on the planet. The 20,000 sq ft Woodward at Copper Barn gives campers access to Snowflex® jumps, foam pits, a spring floor, trampolines and indoor skateboard features. Woodward at Copper is offering week-long Summer Camps, where campers develop their tricks in The Barn and progress them in Copper's campers only on-snow summer terrain park. 3Ring Weekend, July 3-5  

A free family eco-event featuring live music by Neil Diamond Tribute band Super Diamond, the National Repertory Orchestra performing Peter and the Wolf, the Primp My Ride kid powered parade, the first annual Reuse, Recycle, Rummage Sale, a sustainable eco-village including recycled art installations and hands-on, interactive activities designed to educate and entertain at the Conscious Carnival. 3 Ring Weekend: Red, White, Blue and Green. 


Courage Classic, July 25-27
The 20th annual Children's Hospital Courage Classic returns to Copper for three consecutive, fun-filled days of cycling over three Rocky Mountain passes at the height of summer. About two thousand riders hit the roads from Leadville to Summit County and back, for a 157-mile ride, encompassing backcountry roads, challenging climbs and as always, picturesque views, all in an effort to raise money for The Children’s Hospital in Denver.


Copper Triangle Bicycle Tour, August 1 

The famous Copper Triangle has long been considered one of Colorado’s classic alpine road rides. Graced with 78 miles of breathtaking scenery, gorgeous roads and three challenging climbs (including Fremont Pass, Tennessee Pass and Vail Pass), the Copper Triangle exemplifies cycling in the Colorado Rockies. The 2009 ride works in partnership with the Davis Phinney Foundation to raise funds for Parkinson’s disease research.


Guitar Town Guitar Clinic, August 5-6

Learn guitar moves directly from a Guitar Town performer. The interactive Guitar Town Guitar Clinic with Pete Huttlinger is a workshop full of performances, enabling students to see first-hand what he is able to do with 6 strings and some wood. The workshop includes 4 nights lodging, a 1.5 day seminar, continental breakfast and snacks during the sessions, an opportunity to perform in the Guitar Town Showcase on West Lake Stage Friday night, and also includes the Saturday and Sunday guitar workshops, concerts and all other festival activities. Guitar Town, August 7-9

The world’s best guitarists come together at Copper for the 5th annual Guitar Town festival, featuring free guitar workshops, free live music, free viewings of the film Rock Prophecies, the ArtGuitar Silent Auction, Guitar Hero contests and kid’s music activities all weekend. This year features free live music by: Scott Goldman, Joe Robinson, Led Kaapana, Preston Reed, Laurence Juber, Pete Huttlinger, John Jorgenson, Sol Philcox, Tommy Emmanuel, Mark Selby, Marty Stuart, Mick Taylor and Brent Mason with The Players.


Minis in the Mountains, August 7-9

The MINI Coopers return to Copper in 2009 for the 4th annual rally of both new and classic MINIs.  These unique autos motor through the high alpine roads with several organized drives planned each day, with access to some of Colorado’s most scenic highways and byways. Other activities this weekend include a local BBQ event, a car show, test drives of new MINI Coopers, a Saturday dinner with prize drawings and social events in and around Copper.


Mountain Home & Outdoor Expo, August 8-9

In conjunction with Guitar Town, Copper is proud to host the Mountain Home & Outdoor Expo, presented by the Summit County Builder’s Association, showcasing the region’s best designers, builders and green practices. US Half Marathon, August 22

The Copper Mountain US Race Series Half Marathon returns for a third year of competition.  In addition to the half marathon through the scenic Rocky Mountains, runners can test their skills with the family-style 12k run, 5k walk and the kids MaraFun. The exhilarating course starts and finishes in the heart of the Village at Copper and has a little something for every level of runner.


Copper Cup, August 28-30

The Copper Cup is a part of the Mountain States Cup Championship Series, which is a NORBA (National Off-Road Bicycle Association) and USAC (USA Cycling) sanctioned series. The Mountain States Cup (MSC) is the largest full-discipline race series in the United States. It is rider owned and operated, so the courses and venues are world-class and well organized.


Copper Country Songwriter’s Workshop, September 3-4

The Art and Craft of Songwriting Workshop conducted by songwriters Mark Selby, Tia Sillers, Clay Mills and Sonny LeMaire, will improve your songwriting skills with help from this quartet of award-winning songwriters. The Songwriter’s Workshop package includes: a Thursday evening mixer, the all-day Friday workshop, a Friday evening performance, all Copper Country events and entertainment, three nights of lodging, including taxes and surcharges, starting at $475 for a silver standard room.  Restrictions may apply.


Copper Country, September 4-6

A Copper Labor Day festival tradition that is now free, Copper Country celebrates the best of the American spirit. Incredible live music from headliners America and Little Feat, the new and improved Copper Country Arts Festival, a songwriter’s workshop, kids' crafts, the Copper Kids’ Corral, mechanical bull rides, a petting zoo and pony rides come together to make it THE Labor Day event for the entire family. Michael Martin Murphey, Richie Furay, Shelby Lynne and many more will also perform on the Copper Country stage.


Copper Criteriums and Fall Colors Ride, September 11-13

A weekend of criterium racing and festivities that includes a pro criterium under the stars, amateur races and a fall colors ride consisting of a poker run format around the county give cyclists the best of both worlds - a fantastic social ride with aid stations and ride support when the high country is at its fall color peak and a fast and exciting criterium course that will challenge all comers, especially during Saturday's twilight event.
