Hands-On Entertainment during 3 Ring Weekend*

Saturday, July 2, families (especially with kiddos) will enjoy Primp My Ride, a kid-powered parade.  Kids and families can decorate their bike, skateboard, roller skates, scooter, tricycle or pogo stick starting at 10 a.m. at West Lake and then at 11 a.m. cruise through the Village at Copper for this earth-friendly 4th of July parade, led by the Copper Mountain Fire Department’s customized Humvee.  Decorations will be provided, but feel free to bring your own eco-craft supplies.  Prizes will be awarded for artistic merit, technical merit and best overall.

Other fun entertainment throughout the weekend includes eco-crafts, a giant mural, planting a seed in a hand-decorated pot, Make Your Own Hula Hoop, jugglers, stilt walkers, face painting and much more. In addition, Summit Greasecycling will be on hand to educate guests about what they do, which is to “turn every drop of used cooking oil they collect into local resources such as clean energy, all natural soap, biodegradable cleaners, and bio-based lubricants.”

The Solar Powered Bubble Tower is self-sufficient and requires no outside electricity. Children of all ages are captivated by the endless variety of shapes, sizes and colors of the bubbles.

During 3 Ring Weekend, guests might notice ‘prayer flags’ hung around the Village at Copper made out of recycled banner material. Traditionally, prayer flags are used to bless the surrounding countryside and to send messages to the wind to spread good will. With these unique recycled banner prayer flags, the message is more of reuse and conservation. Make sure to check out these cool flags around the Village at Copper this weekend.

Live Music during 3 Ring Weekend*:

Guests won’t want to miss the musical sounds of Jeremy Dion, whose infectious style of progressive folk has been likened to the Barenaked Ladies meeting John Denver, Jack Johnson jamming with Dave Matthews, and Ryan Adams having a back porch picking session with Jerry Garcia. Jeremy performs for the Friday Night Street Party, on Friday, July 1 at 5 p.m. at the new and improved Green Fairy Bar & Nightclub, as well as on Sunday morning, July 3, at 10 a.m. at Incline Bar & Grill.

Make sure to check out The Salteens, Yo Gabba Gabba alumni, playing two shows on Saturday, July 2, the first being a family-oriented show at Noon and again at 6 p.m. with an all-ages show, both in Burning Stones Plaza. The Indie-Pop sounds of this Vancouver based band has been described as a “cheery and sometimes mischievous approach to pop music. Their repertoire seems to bring out the inner child in everyone, in all the best ways.”

Spinning two family-friendly sets on Saturday, July 2, everyone will enjoy the 80s DJ style of Spin Cycle with DJ Laundry at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.  Then make sure to check out the fire dancing by Cosmic Fire, followed by the grand finale of fireworks over West Lake.

Copper Mountain Half Marathon, Trail 10K/5K and Kids MaraFUN*:

Starting off the weekend, on Saturday, July 2 at 9 a.m., join us on a scenic run starting at the base of Copper. For this challenging Trail 10K participants will enjoy all the beauty the Rocky Mountains have to offer, with perhaps some wildlife and definitely the crisp mountain air. The majority of the race will take place on trails with a gorgeous route. In addition, for those not up to the task of a 10K, on Sunday July 3, check out the 5K Trail race, starting at 9:15 a.m.

With some of the most beautiful scenery, bike trails, creeks and mountain views, the Copper Half Marathon on Sunday, July 3 will give participants the full experience of mountain running. This mountain half marathon is one of no comparison. With lush surroundings, spectacular sights and views for miles, the course incorporates more trail routes and makes use of the bike path for a beautiful run up Vail pass. This event has come to be known as one of the toughest and highest elevation half marathons in the U.S. - the start line is set at 9,700 ft., topping out on Vail Pass at 10,600 ft.

For the active kids, there will be a children’s Mini-MaraFUN on both Saturday and Sunday, July 2 & 3 at 11:30 a.m. for a short run through Copper and around West Lake. For only $10, every kid will receive a finisher ribbon, a goodie bag, a frozen treat (Otter Pop), as well as admission into the racer’s BBQ.
