ArtGuitars Now on Display

Copper’s Guitar Town includes Plethora of Family Events Aug. 13 - 15

Copper Mountain, CO…August 9, 2010…ArtGuitars are now on display at the Guitar Center in Denver and these ArtGuitars will be auctioned off during Guitar Town weekend at Copper, August 13 – 15. In the spirit of the “Chicago Cows,” artists from around the community and Colorado have designed, decorated, painted and created the ArtGuitars from damaged guitars.

The ArtGuitar Silent Auction is sponsored by Denver's Guitar Center and all guitars were generously donated by Guitar Center. These guitars are mostly damaged or otherwise unsellable as instruments, but as works of art, and as fundraisers, they are in many ways, priceless. Bids are being accepted now at Guitar Center, as well as throughout the Guitar Town weekend. There will be a gallery showing on Friday, August 13 during Guitar Town at Copper, and then these guitars will be displayed throughout the Village at Copper on Saturday - Sunday, August 14 - 15. Winning bids will be announced before the All-Star Jam on Sunday, August 15 on the main Guitar Town stage at Copper. All proceeds from the silent auction will benefit the Copper Environmental Foundation.

In addition to the ArtGuitar Silent Auction, there are a lot of happenings at Guitar Town this year at Copper, Aug. 13 - 15: three days of free performances by guitar legends Scott Goldman, Pete Huttlinger, Kaki King, Bryan Sutton, John Jorgenson, Richard Thompson, Mark Selby, Albert Lee, Sonny Landreth, Monte Montgomery, and many more; multiple guitar workshops (one with Pete Huttlinger, another moderated by David Wilson from Tonequest Magazine, and an additional clinic put on by JamPlay),  kids’ music activities, Guitar Hero & Indoor Skatebowl sessions in The Woodward at Copper Cage, a giant mural, inflatable guitars and Village activities.

For the true die-hard guitar enthusiasts out there, see your favorite Guitar Heroes live, up close and personal, with VIP side-stage seating and access to the Coors Light Lounge. Enjoy free beer, snacks, side-stage seating, a commemorative poster and reserved patio seating for Saturday & Sun, August 14 & 15. Summit Copper Mountain at 12,313 feet or celebrate two days of Guitar Town for only $123.13 per person! VIP tickets are available at www.copperguitartown.com and will be available for pick-up Friday, August 13 before the show at the Copper Information Center adjacent to Burning Stones Plaza.

ArtGuitar Artist Information:

  • Dwight Eppinger, Copper's own Interactive Marketing Manager, created Guitar in Reverse last summer, and is back this summer expanding on that theme, turning his guitar into an iPod amplifier and visualizer. All you have to do is just plug your iPod in and enjoy.

  • A keen observer of the landscapes, Kamla Presswalla’s art has best been described as whimsical with a menacing undertone, an intentional atmosphere she has created in order to remind us all that although we have infinite potential to dream with the best of intentions, we are sitting carelessly on the brink of self-destruction.

  • Jennifer Mosquera’s distinctive and energetic style attracts the eyes of private collectors and she works in many different mediums including acrylic, watercolor and photography.  Her subject matter is as eclectic as the decisions that this one time prosecutor has made for herself.

  • Dunn – The Signtologist is an entirely green artist that has turned his art form into a science, recycling hundreds of street signs into unique homages to the musicians, actors, public figures and athletes that inspire him. Dunn has found a unique way to turn ordinary to extraordinary while staying within the intent and the criterion of the sign itself.

  • Eric Matelski has made his place in the art community by painting live, curating, coordinating art events and donating his time and artwork to a number of charities and non-profits. As a “live artist,” Eric has painted loose portraits of musicians and performers at hundreds of concerts and events, attracting an audience of his own and completing paintings sometimes in just minutes.

  • Eric Buckner Winfield has always loved everything art had to offer – it is exciting, it can be as daring or as tame as you like; it teaches you discipline as well as encourages you to break the rules. Art is never the same the second time through and most importantly, it’s messy.  Life is art and art is life.  They have often been a marker on Eric’s own life, through doodles to paintings to 31 ft. murals.

  • Russ Wright says that painting this guitar for charity was an absolute pleasure. Music has always been a driving force as inspiration with his visual style - bright colors and Pop/Retro.
