Live Music during 3 Ring Weekend*:
Guests won’t want to miss Rojos Calientes on Friday, July 2 at 6 p.m. Since 2007, Rojos Calientes has been Summit County's most exciting, innovative and respected acoustic band, providing a unique mixture of original music. The band draws from Peruvian and South American folk music, Gypsy Jazz, Bluegrass, Americana and Jam, developing a unique sound that absolutely captivates audiences.
On Saturday, July 3 at noon, guests will enjoy a free family concert by Billy Kelly and The Blah Blah Blahs. Billy Kelly and the gang perform sing-able and dance-able indie rock songs that are enjoyed by children and parents alike. Their musical mix will remind you of Jonathan Richman, They Might Be Giants, R.E.M., and Wilco, and those influences perfectly compliment the band's breezy, slyly humorous tunes.
Following the concert, families will love the 80s DJ style of Spin Cycle with DJ Laundry at 4 p.m. Then at 6 p.m., the Burning Stones Plaza Stage will light up with The Martini Shot, a cover and original six-piece pop-rock rand based out of Southern Colorado. The band was established in 2000 and most of the members are local music teachers. The name, "Martini Shot," refers to the Hollywood slang term for the last shoot of the day.
Copper Mountain Half Marathon, Trail 10K and Kids MaraFUN*:
Starting off the weekend, on Saturday, July 3 at 9 a.m., join us on a scenic run starting at the base of Copper. For this challenging Trail 10K participants will enjoy all the beauty the Rocky Mountains have to offer, perhaps some wildlife and crisp mountain air. The majority (80%) of the race will take place on trails with a gorgeous route that is challenging but not too difficult.
With some of the most beautiful scenery, bike trails, creeks and mountain views, the Copper Mountain Half Marathon will give participants the full experience of mountain running. This mountain half marathon is one of no comparison. With lush surroundings, spectacular sights and views for miles, the NEW course incorporates more trail routes and continues to use the bike path for a beautiful run up Vail pass. This event has come to be known as one of the toughest and highest elevation half marathons in the U.S. - the start line is set at 9,700 ft., topping out on Vail Pass at 10,600 ft.
For the active kids, there will be a free children’s mini-marathon on Sunday, July 4 at 11 a.m. for a quick run through Copper and around West Lake. Every kid will receive a finisher ribbon and frozen treat. For more information on the Half Marathon, 10K Trail race, or the kids MaraFUN, including detailed course and registration info, visit www.copperhalf.com.
Environmental Education and Entertainment during 3 Ring Weekend*
Saturday, July 3, guests enjoy Primp My Ride, a kid-powered parade. Kids and families can decorate their bike, skateboard, roller skates, scooter, tricycle or pogo stick starting at 10 a.m. at West Lake and then at 11 a.m. cruise through the Village at Copper for this earth-friendly 4th of July parade, led by Giant Puppets and the Copper Fire Department’s customized Humvee. Decorations will be provided, but feel free to bring your own eco-craft supplies. Prizes will be awarded for artistic merit, technical merit and best overall.
The Solar Powered Bubble Tower is self-sufficient and requires no outside electricity. Children of all ages are captivated by the endless variety of shapes, sizes and colors of the bubbles.
The Conscious Carnival features story telling with an eco-twist, designed to engage the participants with entertaining and fun activities while learning about a variety of issues concerning the environment and sustainability. Jugglers, stilt walkers, face painting and hula hoops make for a fun-filled and free weekend for the whole family.
