US Telemark Nationals at Copper

The 2005 U.S. Telemark National Championships return Jan. 21-22 to Copper Mountain and invite amateur and professional telemark skiers alike to participate in TeleX and Tele Slopestyle competitions. The top ten athletes from the Tele Slopestyle competition also will participate in a Night Time Big Air demonstration at 6 p.m. on Saturday. In addition to the competitions, telemark expos, parties, movie screenings and more are scheduled to take place in The Village at Copper.

Spectators are encouraged to catch all the action slope side and get an up close view of professional skiers Lorenzo Worster, Max Mancini, Ben Dolence, and Ty Bayberry all scheduled to compete. 

Following is a detailed schedule of the weekend’s event.
Friday, Jan. 21   
10:30 a.m.  TeleX competition, Vein Glory Trail
** TeleX is telemark’s version of Skiercross and features heats of four athletes in head-to-head competition
3 p.m.   TeleX award ceremony, Burning Stones Plaza, The Village at Copper
7 p.m.  Screening of Incognito, extreme telemark movie, Pravda Bar, The Village at Copper
** Athletes from the film will be present for the screening plus a raffle for prizes will be open to all film viewers

Saturday, Jan. 22
9:30 a.m.  Tele Slopestyle competition, Catalyst Terrain Park
**Athletes will be judged on their fluidity and style on the numerous jumps and rails within the park
4 p.m.   Tele Slopestyle award ceremony, Burning Stones Plaza, The Village at Copper
6 p.m.   Night Time Big Air demonstration, Hollywood Hit,
** Come for the demonstration and stay for Copper’s En Fuego, which will include a fire juggler, huge bonfire, torchlight parade and fireworks show in The Village at Copper
**Sunday, Jan. 23 will be used for competition if there is inclement weather Friday or Saturday

According to event organizer and founder of the of the Telemark Championships, Nat Ross of Tough Guy Productions, this year’s competition will be better than ever. “The TeleX course at Copper is one of the premier courses in the world with never ending jumps and banked turns that are sure to have everyone coming back for more,” said Ross. “We’re excited about returning to Copper and bringing with us plenty of action for both athletes and spectators.”
