March 8, 2007
Copper Mountain, Colo… March 8, 2007… Copper will be sizzling when the 7th annual Sunsation end-of-season celebration comes to town March 31-April 15. The John Popper Project and Hometown Heroes Contest are the newest additions to the Sunsation lineup and join an overflowing schedule which already includes Michael Franti & Spearhead, De La Soul, North Mississippi Allstars, Galactic, Dark Star Orchestra, Strive Roots, Particle, the Helly Hansen Battle of Battles, Planet Earth's Shop Wars, Colorado's Largest Easter Egg Hunt – featuring more than 50,000 eggs, the Volcom Peanut Butter & Rail Jam and more. In the coming weeks, Copper will announce more additions to the Sunsation schedule.
This year, Copper introduces a new way for fans to preview what's coming up during the final three-weekends of free live music and on hill events. The new website, coppersunsation.com, provides the most up-to-date information including a calendar of events, band and event profiles, press coverage and the latest lodging offers. In addition, the site features a photo gallery and music player where visitors can sample tunes from bands performing during Sunsation. Links to bands' individual websites add a new depth to fans' Sunsation experience while a link to the Sunsation iMix® playlist on iTunes.com allows visitors to download their favorite songs.
The John Popper Project featuring DJ Logic performs at Sunsation Saturday, March 31 at 2:00 p.m. John Popper, the lead singer of Blues Traveler, joined bassist Rob Wasserman and DJ Logic for a small show in San Francisco. One thing led to another, and in early 2004, John and Logic inaugurated their latest venture, named the John Popper Project. JPP features John on vocals and harmonica, DJ Logic on turntables, Tad Kinchla on bass and Marcus Bleecker on drums. The band toured during breaks in the Blues Traveler schedule in 2004 and 2005, and their first album was released in September of 2006.
Hometown Heroes events have been held in the disciplines of skate and surfboarding but Sunday, April 1 marks the first time this event comes to the snow. A dozen of the world's top professional snowboarders converge on Copper to compete alongside a dozen of their future counterparts, today's top amateurs. The contest has an innovative team format with newbies and seasoned vets going head-to-head in an event like no other.
While guests enjoy the free live music, they also have a chance to win great prizes. Copper, Verizon Wireless and Frontier Airlines present a text-and-win contest with prizes including round trip airfare anywhere Frontier Airlines flies. Four airfare vouchers will be given away throughout Sunsation. To win, guests simply watch for a word that flashes across the big screen then text that word to the Verizon Wireless number provided.
