Copper has a Sunsational line-up for its closing weekend

It seems like just yesterday we were waiting anxiously for winter’s arrival and now the season is coming to a close. As always, Copper has planned a Sunsational season finale, with live music, fun events, great prizes and Easter treats.

Mix Master Mike headlines Copper’s 16th annual Sunsation weekend with a free concert Saturday. Formerly of the Beastie Boys, Mix Master Mike was named “the world’s greatest DJ” by USA Today and will tour with Metallica this year.

“He plays all kinds of music,” says Stephanie Sweeney. “He’ll be a good DJ for everyone to enjoy.”

The season send-off celebration starts Saturday morning with Red Bull’s annual Slopesoakers, a crowd favorite that provides as much entertainment for spectators as it does the 150 competitors who will attempt to cross the pond without falling in. Expect to see impressive tricks, magnificent crashes, zany costumes and epic splashes.

“It’s a lot of fun to watch because it gets crazy,” Sweeney says.

Prizes – from cash to season passes and more – will be awarded for a variety of categories, including best costume and best crash. Not up for the challenge? Try your hand at the hula-hoop and limbo contests instead.

Families will want to start Easter Sunday with breakfast with the beloved storybook character, Rainbow Fish, before heading out for Copper’s annual Egg Hunt. You might also call Sunday “Retro-day” as participants of the High Fives Retro Shred-a-thon do their best to maximize their laps off the American Eagle lift to raise money for the Tahoe-based nonprofit that provides resources and inspiration for mountain action sports athletes who suffer life-altering injuries.

Copper wraps up its Sunsation celebration with the funky and soulful music of Robert Randolph and the Family Band. It’s a weekend line-up that would merit standing in the rain, but, so far, the weather forecasters are predicting sun, sun and more sun. Don’t forget your sunscreen.
