Local Colorado Activities

Copper Mountain provides access to some great local activities that will enhance your Colorado summer vacation at the resort. These include some of the best whitewater rafting and fishing in the state as well as other fun and unique activities.

Lakota Guides

Experience the excitement of rafting the Shoshone section of the Colorado River through Glenwood Canyon or the easier pace of a float trip down the Upper Colorado. If scenic views are your passion try the off road scenic hummer tours through the mountains. These adventures will thrill and excite any outdoor enthusiast looking to complete that Colorado vacation.

Whitewater Rafting & Float Trips

Discover the ultimate Colorado adventure on a whitewater river rafting trip. Guided Colorado Fishing Trips

These are the best way to make the most of limited fishing time. Guides fish these Colorado area waters daily. They know where the fish are and with what to fish, and they are all excellent instructors. A day with a guide can be a very rewarding experience. Maximum 3 anglers per guide.

Tours depart between 7:30-8am for full-day and morning trips and 1pm for afternoon trips. Transportation is provided from the shop. All full day fishing trips include lunch, all trips include gear, fishing license and flies are extra.

Continental Divide ATV Tours

Guided Tours Ride the Continental Divide with an informative guide taking the lead through the backcountry trails. Guests will stop periodically to enjoy scenic views, historic landmarks, and possibly wildlife sightings.

Continental Divide welcomes families and groups of all sizes, 6 years and under ride for FREE. You will have the chance to ride top of the line ATV's. Helmets are provided.

Cattle Drives

Rusty Spurr Ranch is Colorado's premier horse outfit as featured on Colorado Getaways. They offer a variety of unique experiences to accommodate any equine-related desire our guests have. From punchin' cattle on 10,000 plus acres of open range.

 Riders will receive a short lesson in the art of handling cattle and a riding lesson before taking to the hills to gather and drive a herd of Texas Longhorn. Your group will drive the herd about three to four miles across sagebrush covered bluffs with the Gore Range, William's Fork Mountains and views of the Continental Divide providing ideal backdrops for photos along the way.

Horseback Riding

Copper Mountain Stables
The most popular excursion options at Copper Mountain Stables are the trail rides which are offered in one and two hour increments. Half day trips that include lunch are also available. Enjoy a scenic walking trail ride in the high country of Colorado that traverses the mountains through lush green meadows and forests. Picturesque wild flowers and wonderful views of the Ten Mile Range, Gore Range and Jacques Peak.

Frisco Bay Marina - Lake Dillon

Frisco Bay Marina is located at Lake Dillon just 10 miles from Copper.  Frisco Bay offers a full service marina, boat rentals,  sailing, kayak lessons, senic boat tours and more.

Top of the Rockies Scenic Byway

Scenic Byway
Enjoy the nearby spectacular Colorado scenery while on summer vacation at the resort. Start at Copper and head south on highway 91 and immediately start to climb up to Fremont Pass at 11,318 feet, where the road crosses the continental divide. Then you'll head down into historic Leadville where you can enjoy quaint shops and cafes in the highest incorporated town (10,200 ft) in the U.S.

Massive Mountain
As you head south from Leadville, you'll catch amazing vistas of the Sawatch Range to the west which includes two 14,000 foot peaks - Mt. Massive and Mt. Elbert. Mt. Elbert is the highest peak in Colorado at 14,433 feet. Then head west on highway 82 to Twin Lakes -- this is the endpoint of the scenic byway, but if you continue, you'll head over Independence Pass to Aspen.

Scenic Map

Following the byway route, turn around at Twin Lakes and head back to Leadville. Drive thru Leadville and head northwest on highway 24 which will bring you through Red Cliff and Minturn. Minturn has a couple restaurants with nice decks to hang out on sunny days. If you're headed back to Copper, hop on I-70 East from here.
