The inaugural 2014 Skyrunner Series is a natural expansion of the international skyrunning events that have captured the imagination of runner’s globally. La Maratona Verticale includes a full Marathon (26.2 Miles- 42k), Half Marathon (13.1 Miles- 21k) and Vertical K (3 miles- 5k). The Vertical Marathon will have over 10,000 feet of elevation gain (for the 42K) and the 13.1 Mile (21K) 5,000 feet. The Vertical K is a 3 mile ascent with approximately 4,000 feet of elevation gain.
What: La Maratona Verticale includes a full Marathon (26.2 Miles- 42k), Half Marathon (13.1 Miles- 21k) and Vertical K (3 miles- 5k). Course: A 26.2 Mile (42K), 13.1 Mile (22K) SkyRaces and a Vertical Kilometer. These Skyrunning races will ascend to the 4 Summits of Copper Mountain; Copper Peak 12,441, Tucker Mountain 12,337, Union Peak 12,313 and Jacque Peak 12,305, and take place within the Copper Mountain Ski Area boundary. The races will traverse the single track trail and slopes of Copper Mountain Ski Area. All events will start and finish at The Village at Copper (AKA Center Village). The course is dependent upon US Forest Service approval.
Spectating: Copper will have great spectator views from Patrol Headquarters on Saturday and from Solitude Station on Sunday. A lift ticket will need to be purchased to ride the chairlift, or you can hike from the base area.
