About the Lift Changes
The end is nigh! No, not in an apocalyptic sense... more of an it's spring sort of sense. We're sad too, but hey, summer isn't all that bad. There is golfing and go karts and Woodward to attend.

The end is nigh! No, not in an apocalyptic sense... more of an it's spring sort of sense. We're sad too, but hey, summer isn't all that bad. There is golfing and go karts and Woodward to attend.
Anyway, where I'm going with this is that the snow is melting. It can't be avoided. Yes, we received amazing amounts this season, and it has been one of our best seasons. But, this is also one of our latest seasons. At the moment, the lower mountain terrain and steepest terrain are losing coverage fast. Copper Mountain is a mountain; we've got rocks. The reason for beginning to shut down terrain is that we are keeping you and your equipment safe. We still have plenty of beginner terrain accessible from the American Flyer Lift as well as expert and intermediate terrain accessible from the American Flyer and many of our other remaining lifts.
Also beginning April 14th, our lift hours will change. The American Flyer will begin running at 9:00 AM (8:45 for Secret!Pass holders). The rest of our lifts will begin operation at 10:00 AM. Our closing time of 4:00 PM will remain in effect for the rest of the season. The reason we are not opening the other lifts until 10:00 AM is that with spring conditions every day, the wet snow freezes each night providing very icy conditions until the sun comes out. We feel the extra hour will provide much safer/enjoyable spring conditions.
Finally, the hours of the tubing hill have also changed. The tubing hill will be open Friday April 15th to Sunday April 17th at 11 am with the last session starting at 4 pm. The tubing hill will be closed for the season beginning April 18th.

this is bs! open @ 10 close @ 5 not 4, dont make it sound like it is for safety when it is about money ! on powder days in spring they r over by 11 3o because the sun is so hot ! who r u kidding? you r robbing the locals and homeowners in every way possible .. dont think everyone doesnt know that you r nickle and diming us evry which way ! poor business decisions being made ! intrawest is gone but not the intrawesrt mentality ! that is a shame !

You cant really expect people to believe the reason for shutting down 1/4 of the mountain is due to lack of coverage. First of all, if there is indeed a lack of snow (which just isnt the case)....make more. Your faulty logic would also dictate that if the lower green runs are suffering from melting snow...arent also your lower blue runs, which are at the same level (and obviously steeper) suffering same fate?
This is a classic example of bait and switch. You people get the tail end spring break crowd to commit to a visit by extending the season thru the late Easter holiday, yet only days before that crowd arrives (conveniently too late to change plans) you decide to initiate a massive shutdown.
I love Copper, its a great place to visit and a great place to ski. Its a shame management is insistent on screwing their customer base.
Now, what are you going to do to try to save my business?

Most ski resorts limit operations towards the end of the season. I just got back from Beaver Creek and they did it. It didn't bother me. There's still plenty to ski. I'm sure there's still plenty to ski at Copper as well. Seems reasonable to me.

Love Copper. Let them make the business decisions that will keep the resort in good fiscal condition. Running a ski/snowboard resort ain't cheap and it's a kick-a mountain.

So...since you are reducing on mountain operations, and limiting times of skiing, and keeping some terrain off limits, is my season pass discounted in any way??? DOUBT IT!!! Thanks for showing the true locals that you really care!

I am very disappointed with copper and will not return. Lots of snow on the ground but they close early and most of the runs. I booked early so my family is stuck. No discounts offered or any compensation. I understand business decisions but at least a lift ticket price reduction would be a step toward compensation for not offering all the services.

Michael,
Thanks for the blog post. You feedback is important to us.
If you are lodging with us, we can get you access a $49 lift ticket through the call center. If not, the window lift ticket rate has been reduced $20 from regular season rate to $79 and we do have other deals out there like the High Four (4 for $219) or Swingers pass ($39 with another resort’s season pass).. And, the current snow conditions are some of the best they have been in many seasons. Lifts are not closing early, in fact this season we are staying open a week later than last with lift closing scenarios on par with what we have done historically and generally are limited to lifts that access redundant terrain. The only real change to the past is the 1 hour delay on all lifts other than American Flyer.
We would be happy to try address any concerns you may have and can be reached at this email address webmaster@coppercolorado.com
Best, Dwight

Uh Rachel! It ain't because of the lack of snow. There is better coverage that I EVER seen. I skied Copper bowl last Saturday and rocks I usually see mid-winter are GONE! Covered in SNOW! The runs under Reso (which was closed) had a foot of new snow. I understand the business logic for starting to shutdown the mountain but DON'T BS us about doing if for safety.
The 10 AM opening is fine on a normal spring day but not a powder day. Just as George mentioned. Powder is mash potatoes by 10 AM

yes we r getting bs from management .... touting safety and that mtns r made of rock ! funny how we open copper bowl with 20 or so inches but now that we have a 100 or so it is dangerous ?! the 10 oclock opening stinks and yes copper does not care about the locals ! the fact that flyer is open @ nine is ridiculous ... there is nothing to ski over there and when the eagle opens at ten the poma was broke down again ! and how about the fact that the snow starts melting by 10 30 or 11 so that gives us avid skiiers a good hour or so of skiing ! not good enough ! 8 out of 22 lifts when we r touting one of the best yrs ever is pitiful ! if u r losing money close it does no one any good to loose money ! and please stop talking out of both sides of your mouth... we can all see through the propaganda !

Copper, This past winter I had 100+ days of skiing. Most were at Copper. A few at other Summit County resorts and a couple at other Colorado resorts. My home base is Copper so I'm a bit biased. Copper had the best snow in Summit County...Period.
The 'spring operating hours' didn't make much of a difference to me. I could/did find powder most days. If there was an issue, it was trekking from East Village to Flyer for that first hour. Only did that once. Your Spring operating schedule should have been more flexible in terms of 'powder days' and terrain. Reso and Copper bowls were closed too early. It's hard to predict conditions and number of skiers so I survived on what terrain was available. Never-Never-Never saw a crowd after early April. Even the die-hards were burnt out by then.
My problem this past spring was being able to find a place to eat. Never knew what places were open. Hours of the restaurants were un-predictable. There was nothing open in East Village a couple of evenings.
See you again in a few weeks for Summer.

It is sad that Coppers management does not care about its customers. The lack of care, cutting corners, closing terrain and lifts way way to early has led me to not renew my Copper pass for the first time in 20 years, next year we will take our business elsewhere. I am sad, but enough is enough.

It's April 2012, why do you still have this article from last year on your website? I'm looking for current information, not history.
