Ride Information
The famous Copper Triangle has long been considered one of Colorado’s classic alpine road rides. Graced with breathtaking scenery, gorgeous roads and three challenging climbs, the Copper Triangle exemplifies cycling in the Colorado Rockies. The 5th anniversary of the Colorado Cyclist Copper Triangle Alpine Classic will take place on Saturday August 7th, 2010 as an impeccably supported ride. Cyclist will start and finish at Burning Stones Plaza in central Copper Mountain Resort, Colorado. Amply stocked aid/rest stations will be positioned throughout the course. Upon returning from your ride, participants will be greeted by the “Alpine Celebration”. The post-ride party, with music, a first – class lunch, prize drawings and cycling expo will continue throughout the afternoon.
Schedule
The Colorado Cyclist Copper Triangle will hold the start and finish at the Burning Stones Plaza at Copper Mountain Resort. Friday August 6, 2010 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. - Registration / Packet pick-up & Expo Saturday August 7, 2010 5:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. - Registration / Packet pick-up 5:45 a.m. to 8 a.m. - Start times (all riders MUST start before 8 a.m.) Colorado State Patrol will not allow anyone to start prior to first light (5:45 am) without both front and back lights on your bike. 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. - Alpine Celebration
Rest/Aid Stations
There will be five aid/rest stations on the course. Each aid/rest station will be stocked with water, energy drink, energy bars/snacks, fruit, bagels, trail mix etc… Please note that not all items will be available at all aid/rest stations: Aid 1 – Fremont Pass summit Open 6:00am to 10:00am Aid 2 – Tennessee Pass summit Open 6:30am to 11:30am Aid 3 – West Vail (Stephens park) Open 7:00am to 12:30pm Aid 4 – Base of Vail Pass Open 8:00am to 2:00pm Aid 5 – Vail Pass summit Open 8:30am to 3:00pm Riders must wear wristbands (supplied with registration) to obtain food
Weather
Expect temperatures to be in the upper 30’s to low 40’s at the start with normal daytime highs in the upper 60’s to low 70’s. Mountain weather is highly variable, so be prepared for thunderstorms or even rain.
Camping
There is NO RV or car camping available at Copper Mountain Resort the weekend of the event.
