Copper Mountain’s end-of-season bash, Sunsation, continues this weekend with special events and live music. Sunsation’s Week Two features the Planet Earth Outerwear’s Shop Wars, The Southland, Oteil & the Peacemakers and headliners Toots and the Maytals on April 8, then Toubab Krewe, Liquid Soul and Keller Williams on April 9.
Toots and the Maytals will anchor the musical line-up on Saturday when they take to the stage at 4:00 p.m. Toots is one of the true architects of reggae; so much so that "Do the Reggay," their 1968 single is credited with giving the genre its name. Drenched in soul, rooted in gospel and still breathtakingly powerful after almost four decades in the spotlight, Toots is sure to please the Sunsation crowd.
Sunday’s music culminates with Keller Williams at 4:00 p.m. Williams stands out for his unique approach to folk music and for his undeniable rhythmic mystique. His playful combination of all musical genres blends with clever lyrics to inspire imagination and smiles.
Who truly is born to shred? Planet Earth Outerwear’s Shop Wars give local shops the chance to square off and claim bragging rights for best shop around. Twenty shops are invited to Copper’s Catalyst Terrain Park to go head-to-head in three best trick events – best jump, best halfpipe trick and best rail slide. The winner of each event earns a $1000 cash prize, second and third places earn prize packs from event sponsors, Planet Earth Outerwear, Adio footwear, K2 snowboards, Dragon optics, Holden clothing, Signal snowboards, Celsius boots and Snow Board magazine.
Sunsation continues for the final weekend of the season on April 15-16 with the Volcom Peanut Butter and Rail Jam, the 20th annual Eenie Weenie Bikini Contest, Colorado’s Largest Easter Egg Hunt and musical acts Liza, Benevento/Russo Duo, Madame Andrews & The Heavenly Echoes, The Lee Boys, and headliners Rusted Root.
