All eyes will be on the U.S. Ski Team Speed Center venue early in the season, as the U.S. Ski Team prepares for the main event: the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. The U.S. Ski Team Speed Center at Copper Mountain is the only full-length training venue of its kind available early season in the world. New this winter, Copper Mountain hosts a massive pep-rally to celebrate and officially announce and name the U.S. Alpine Ski Team on Nov. 8, to kick off the U.S. Ski Team Olympic Season. 

U.S. Ski Team Speed Center Background
In the summer of 2011, Copper Mountain Resort and the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) announced a long-term partnership to create the U.S. Ski Team Speed Center at Copper Mountain, an exclusive on-snow alpine ski racing venue designed to provide full-length downhill training by early November every season. In only two seasons of operation, the training center has boosted U.S. athletes to seven World Cup titles and four World Championship medals. Additionally the Best in the World women’s speed team has won the nations standings for downhill the last two winters. Interviews are available with the U.S. Ski Team and coaches upon request.

New this winter, U.S. Ski Team First Tracks moves to Copper Mountain. This massive pep-rally celebrates and officially announces the members of the 2013-2014 U.S. Alpine Ski Team on Nov. 8, kicking off the U.S. Ski Team Olympic Season. Make sure not to miss the chance for the whole family to come and cheer on your favorite on-snow hero’s while they are at their early-season training home, the U.S. Ski Team Speed Center at Copper Mountain.

The U.S. Ski Team and Copper Mountain invite you to a unique media engagement with the U.S. Alpine Ski Team as it prepares for the 2014 Audi FIS Alpine World Cup and Olympic Winter Games season by opening training in North America at the world class U.S. Ski Team Speed Center.

The Road to Sochi Continues with the Sprint U.S. Grand Prix World Cup at Copper Mountain, Dec. 19–22

Copper Mountain kicks off the U.S. Sprint Grand Prix series, which will be used for U.S. Olympic team selection, Dec. 19 - 22. In 2012, Copper hosted over 500 athletes from 13 countries and the stakes will be even higher in 2013, with a potential Olympic bid on the line. Both slopestyle and halfpipe disciples with be featured at Copper Mountain before making their world debut in February in Russia. Athletes will be throwing their biggest and best tricks in the second-to-last qualifier before Sochi. Top athletes from all over the world are expected to compete giving spectators a chance to watch and rub elbows with the sport’s next big stars this December at Copper Mountain.

Grand Prix and Copper Mountain History 
Copper Mountain has a long history hosting the Grand Prix series, one of the longest-standing and celebrated tours in action sports history. This year marks the 18th season of the Grand Prix and its 6th year running at Copper Mountain. In 2012/13 the Freeskiing and Snowboarding Superpipe and Slopestyle disciplines were added to the World Cup lineup by the International Ski Federation (FIS). This accreditation made the Copper Mountain stop the first domestic U.S. qualifier and the first chance for athletes to gain qualification points for the 2014 Winter Olympics. Interviews are available with the U.S. FreeskiingU.S. Snowboarding teams and coaches upon request.

Interview Opportunity - Woodward at Copper’s Olympian Molds Future Olympians
Phoebe Mills, Woodward at Copper’s Programming Manager, embodies the foundation of Woodward training. Woodward was built on the groundwork of gymnastics and action sports, providing a place where aspiring riders and skiers can learn and perfect new skills in the safe environment of the Woodward at Copper Barn facility before taking them to the snow. Mills, an Olympic bronze medalist in gymnastics at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, will travel to Sochi, Russia this February as an U.S. snowboard judge for, both Superpipe and the newly added Slopestyle events. Interviews are available upon request.
