Healing the Healers: Copper Mountain Announces the Mountain Pose Yoga Festival

New Yoga Festival Offers Educational and Restorative Retreat for Healthcare Professionals, July 7-10

Copper Mountain, CO...June 8, 2011...The Village at Copper announces the addition of the Mountain Pose Yoga Festival to the 2011 summer event lineup. From Thursday, July 7 - Sunday, July 10, Copper Mountain Resort invites medical professionals, yoga enthusiasts and anyone who works in health care to enjoy a weekend of professional development and relaxation in a breathtaking mountain setting. With over 40+ workshops and lectures led by a talented cast of yoga leaders, this educational program has been approved by the American Academy of Family Physicians for up to 6.5 CME credits.

Different from many other yoga gatherings, the Mountain Pose Yoga Festival has been created to introduce medical professionals to 'yoga as medicine' and to deepen the study and understanding for those providers already using yoga in their practices. Attendees will be able to experience many of the ways yoga can be used for the treatment of back pain, stress, anxiety, depression, heart disease, altitude sickness, as well as the symptoms of menopause. Workshops and lectures will give participants a better understanding of the types of yoga, appropriate postures, questions patients should ask and things patients should be aware of before beginning or continuing practice.

Incorporating yoga into treatment programs and therapies is fast becoming a tool for the health care community. There is significant research, evidence and new data emerging almost daily on the general health benefits of yoga, as well as the benefits of yoga as part of a treatment program for specific diseases. Recent studies have found yoga to be beneficial for everything from eating disorders and depression to spinal cord injuries and orthopedic rehab. Check out the research on the Yoga & Healthtab of the event's website.

Several noteworthy leaders will join this year's festival. Clinical instructor Kenneth Bock, MD., will present Consequences of Toxicity, and T. Colin Campbell, PhD, author of The China Study, will discuss Nutrition as the Future of Medicine. Other headlining talent and lectures includes:

  • Dr. Satkirin Khalsa, recipient of the Mayo Clinic Natural Medicine Award (2007), will speak on Yoga and Altitude.
  • Motivational speaker Kris Carr will present Crazy Sexy Life, with musical prelude by Flamenco guitarist and Elephant Journal editor Bob Weisenberg.
  • A lecture on Yoga and Heart Health will be led by yoga practitioner and Duke University professor Daniel B Mark, MD.
  • Renowned yoga leader Rodney Yee will deliver the Welcome Address and will lead several classes.

Check out the full schedule of classes, workshops and lectures, as well as bios of the festival's talent.
