COPPER MOUNTAIN, Colo. — Dec. 31, 2012 — The new year is nearly here and whether your resolution is to learn something new, lose those holiday pounds and get in shape or just have some plain ‘ole fun, let Copper Mountain Resort lend a helping hand.
New Year’s Eve at Copper Mountain begins tonight with the USASA Rocky Mountain Series Rail Jam. USASA snowboarders and skiers will be battling to qualify for this year’s USASA X Games rail jam. A torchlight parade down Main Vein will follow the rail jam and finish off with fireworks over West Lake at 7 p.m. Encore fireworks will shoot off at the base of the American Eagle Lift at 10 p.m. to ring in the New Year with a bang.
January marks National Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month and Copper Mountain’s Ski and Ride School is offering 50% off your 2nd day when a 2-day adult lesson is purchased. Take your skills to the next level by exploring your inner park rat with the Ski and Ride School and Woodward at Copper. The Easy Rider carpet in Center Village provides beginners free access to the slopes while learning. Once guests are ready to test their skills, a lift ticket for the Pitchfork beginner chairlift is available for just $15. Take your healthy resolution to a whole new level with the 2nd Annual WinterBike Saturday, Jan. 19. Starting at 6:00 p.m. in Center Village, this one of a kind race brings bikers on a course around the resort followed by a grand finish line celebration complete with fireworks. In 2012, WinterBike was the winner of the NSAA’s Most Unique Event and this year unveils a new and challenging course for racers. Registration is now open online or day of registration is available inside Jack’s Slopeside Grill in Center Village from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Cost is $20 per rider and all proceeds from the race goes towards Cloud City Wheelers advocacy efforts.
Mark your calendars for the Sprint U.S. Grand Prix making its first stop at Copper Mountain Jan. 7-12 with both skiing and snowboarding halfpipe and slopestyle events. The Grand Prix Series has been elevated to World Cup status and will bring competitors from all over the world to battle for qualification points for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.
