COPPER MOUNTAIN, Colo. – This weekend, like every other, thousands of beer lovers will travel to Colorado's 188 breweries and sample some of the drinks that put the state on the map.

While a frosty beverage has long been a part of a hophead's downtime, many are now making it the focal point of their leisure time.

Dozens of bus and bike beer tours to breweries are popping up. Beer lover Scott Goldman says the beverage is always top of his mind when he's out and about.

"When I go, wherever I go, any city in the United States, the first thing that I do when I have a moment is try and find, you know, the best beer venue," he says.

Goldman and thousands of other beer lovers will be attending Guitar Town at Copper Mountain Resort August 9-11.

The free music event brings together the world's best guitarists for a weekend of performances. It also includes a ticketed five-course beer dinner featuring New Belgium beers and creations from some of Copper's best food.

The cost is $49 per person. Tickets can be purchased at copperguitartown.com.

Beer tourism has caught the eye of the Colorado Brewer's Guild. Staff is currently researching just how much money is spent in Colorado on "beer-cations" alone.

Steve Kurowski, the guild's marketing representative, says the beer-food pairing event at Guitar Town is a sign of things to come.

"Look for more events to wind in craft beer moving forward,” he says, “whether it's a music event to art festivals. "

Goldman says quality beer and good music is a natural fit for him.

"You know a situation like Guitar Town is the perfect storm of music and enjoying great beer," he says.

Colorado's craft brew industry contributes more than $18 billion to the state's economy every year.
