Copper Mountain Extends 12/13 Season with Additional Weekend, April 19-21

Copper Mountain Resort Leadership Team is excited to announce today that the 12/13 skiing and riding season will be extended for the upcoming weekend, April 19–21. Copper Mountain resort has received over a foot of snow since closing day, April 14; and up to 20 more inches are predicted in the forecast through Sunday, April 21.

The 2013 Special Olympics Colorado Winter Games will be held March 2-3. Athletes will compete in figure and speed skating at South Suburban Ice Arena in Centennial on Saturday, March 2. The Games will then move to Copper Mountain on Sunday, March 3, for the outdoor snow events – alpine skiing, cross country skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing.

Bowman Wins Visa Grand Prix

Despite snow and wind Maddie Bowman (South Lake Tahoe, CA) displayed great athleticism with her left and right 900’s that landed her in first at the Visa U.S. Freeskiing Grand Prix. Colorado native and 16 year-old U.S. Rookie team member Aaron Blunck (Crested Butte, CO) beat tough competition and weather to take second in the men’s competition at his third FIS World Cup appearance.
Anderson, Guldemond Sweep Sprint Grand Prix

Jamie Anderson (South Lake Tahoe, CA) and Chas Guldemond (Reno, NV) swept the slopestyle finals at the Paul Mitchell Progression Session at the Sprint U.S. Grand Prix at Copper Mountain today. Despite snowy conditions that made for slow in runs, Guldemond was able to float his signature double 1260 that earned him a winning score of 92.50.

Day two of the Sprint U.S. Grand Prix featured eight countries moving onto the halfpipe finals at Copper Mountain. Half of the 16 that qualified for finals were from the U.S. with Spencer Shaw (Stratton, VT) of the U.S. Snowboarding Rookie team making finals on Sat. Jan. 12.

With a massive field of nearly 125 competitors, 37 countries took over Copper Mountain Resort for day two of the 2013 Visa U.S. Freeskiing Grand Prix men’s slopestyle qualifiers today. Six countries, a total of 12 athletes, five of which are athletes from the United States made it to the final round of the FIS World Cup taking place on Sat. Jan. 12.
Copper Mountain Allows Non-lift Up-Hill Access with New Uphill-Access Pass

As of Wednesday, Jan. 9 up-hill access at Copper Mountain is permitted with the 2013 Copper Mountain up-hill access pass. All guests are required to have a Copper Mountain up-hill access pass to skin or snowshoe within the resort boundary during non-operational hours; this includes a signed up- hill access waiver and armband that must in be plain sight while going up-hill.

2013 Sprint U.S. Grand Prix makes its debut stop at Copper Mountain this week welcoming both halfpipe and slopestyle athletes in the recently-elevated FIS World Cup competition. Points earned at the World Cup determine eligibility to compete at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. The Sprint U.S. Grand Prix is a 5 Star World Snowboard Tour and the Visa U.S. Grand Prix is an Association of Freeskiing Professionals (AFP) Platinum level event.

Copper Mountain will open its 22’ Main Vein Superpipe today, Nov. 29. Top athletes and national teams from around the globe have anxiously waited for the unveiling of the world’s first halfpipe this season. Main Vein will serve as the only Olympic-sized 22ft venue available to athletes prior to the competition season, a training opportunity complemented by Woodward at Copper, an indoor training facility dedicated to terrain park and pipe progression.
