Copper Mountain throws a party remembering 2013 and celebrating the start to 2014 on Tuesday, Dec. 31. NYE Rail Session hosted by Woodward at Copper will be held under the lights in Burning Stones Plaza in Center Village including a torchlight parade, kids’ glow-light parade, fire dancers from 5 – 7 p.m. Fireworks will commence over West Lake at 10 p.m. 2014 kicks off with a packed lineup of events giving Copper guests the perfect time fulfill the resolution to be more active on the slopes in the new year.

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Shaun White (Carlsbad, CA) made a big leap towards Sochi Sunday with his third-place finish at the Paul Mitchell Slopestyle at the Sprint U.S. Grand Prix. White’s top-four result fulfilled the objective criteria for Olympic qualification as well as gave him the highest U.S. result so far in the five-event qualification series, putting him in a solid position going into the three remaining events.

Olympic gold medalist Kelly Clark (West Dover, VT) mathematically clinched her spot on the 2014 Olympic halfpipe snowboarding team Saturday with her win at the Sprint U.S. Grand Prix at Copper. Clark led a U.S. sweep of the halfpipe finals with Arielle Gold (Steamboat Springs, CO) and Gretchen Bleiler (Aspen, CO).

Rookie rider Taylor Gold (Steamboat Springs, CO) led a U.S. sweep with Greg Bretz (Mammoth Lakes, CA) and Ben Ferguson (Bend, OR) in the halfpipe final at the Sprint U.S. Grand Prix at Copper. Gold put down his winning score during the very first run of the competition after barley qualifying for the final in 16th.

Nick Goepper (Lawrenceburg, IN) became the first skier to secure a spot on the first-ever U.S. Freeskiing Olympic team Saturday with his second-place finish in the slopestyle final at the Visa U.S. Freeskiing Grand Prix presented by The North Face. Goepper was the top American finisher behind Norway’s Andreas Haatveit, who took home the FIS World Cup victory while Australian Russ Henshaw took third.

Aaron Blunck (Crested Butte, CO) moved to the top of the U.S. Olympic qualification standings with his halfpipe win Friday at the Visa U.S. Freeskiing Grand Prix Series presented by The North Face. Blunck sealed the victory in the FIS World Cup event with French favorite Kevin Rolland in second and teammate Gus Kenworthy (Telluride, CO) taking third, vaulting himself into the third qualification spot.

With help from Mother Nature and cold early-season temperatures, Copper Mountain has concluded snowmaking operations and thus opened up-hill access to guests on Monday, Dec. 16, after 5:00 p.m. Up-hill access is permitted at Copper Mountain with the 2013/2014 Up-Hill Access Pass. All guests are required to have a Copper Mountain Up-Hill Access Pass to skin or snowshoe within the resort boundary during non-operational hours.

The world’s best Olympic hopeful freeskiers and snowboarders from across from 35 nations are set to battle it out at Copper Mountain at the 2014 Sprint U.S. Grand Prix, Dec. 16 - 22. Freeskiing and snowboarding athletes compete in both halfpipe and slopestyle events in this Olympic qualification event. Points earned at Copper Mountain qualify athletes for the United States Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) selection process and determine eligibility to compete at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

Matthews was a member of the Copper Mountain Ski Team and the “Mini World Cuppers” when she was six years old, and is flying-through-the-air proof of Copper Mountain and Woodward at Copper’s dedication to athlete progression.

Powdr Announces ‘Protect Your Playground’ Grant Program To Fund Individual’s Ideas to Protect Local Recreation Spaces

Copper Mountain’s parent company, Powdr, a leading mountain resort owner and active lifestyle company, today announced Protect Your Playground, a new environmental grant program funding individuals with ideas to protect their local environments. Powdr has committed $40,000 across its properties (nine mountain resorts and four Woodward locations) in grant funds for the first year.

The first stop of the 2014 The North Face Park and Pipe Open Series presented by Nissan (PPOS) concluded today with light snowfall and chilly conditions at Copper Mountain, CO on the only superpipe currently open in North America. Over $25,000 in prize money and product was awarded to the top finishers including U.S. Freeskiing athletes Gus Kenworthy of Telluride, CO and Annalisa Drew of Andover, MA who both took first place.

The 2014 U.S. Alpine Ski Team was introduced Friday during Nature Valley First Tracks at Copper Mountain, home of the U.S Ski Team Speed Center. Olympic gold medalists Ted Ligety (Park City, UT) Lindsey Vonn (Vail, CO), Bode Miller (Franconia, NH) and World Champion Mikaela Shiffrin (Eagle-Vail, CO) were on hand as 54 athletes were announced during a public celebration to kick off the start of the 2014 Audi FIS Alpine World Cup and Olympic winter.

The American Eagle chairlift starts turning for the 2013-2014 season at 9 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 1 and at 8:30 a.m. on weekends and holidays. Throughout opening weekend, guests can experience top-to-bottom skiing and riding off the American Eagle chairlift and in the Easy Rider learning area. Woodward at Copper will feature over ten terrain park features in Woodward’s Eagle Terrain Park, catering to all ability levels.
